The flavours of the Abruzzo coast is predominantly based on seafood, offering rich and healthy dishes.
From Martinsicuro to Vasto, every town has its own recipes and specialities. There is, however, an ingredient in common: the spicy pepper, which with its distinguished aroma, characteristic of all Abruzzese dishes.
Dishes based on bluefish (anchovies, sarda, mackerel) and fish (monkfish, mullett, ray and scorpionfish) are widespread and creative, the best ones being seafood and shellfish served with pasta, in a risotto or in a salad.
Those who do not like fish can take comfort in the famous arrosticini, small meat skewers cooked over coal with the tastiest cheeses (varieties of Pecorino from the Abruzzo region), local handmade egg pasta, le scrippelle ‘mbusse (soft rolled pancakes in a broth, a typical local dish) and much more.
This "land of the olive trees", of strong and old refined tastes, also has a large variety of excellent wines, such as Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo.
